The Committee

The Committee is made up of representatives from the founding organisations who have a particular interest in the work.

Chairman – Chris Hess

Chris is the chair of CCSW, with which he has been involved since its inception in1981. He taught RE for 37 years, was a deputy headteacher at Glan-y-Mor school, Burry Port, for 20 years, and in semi-retirement is now a tutor for Trinity College, Carmarthen, on the PGCE RE course. He is a member of Libanus Evangelical Church, Morriston, Swansea, where he is chair of the diaconate.

Treasurer – John Lord

John took a degree in mathematics at Bristol University, followed by a PGCE at Cardiff. He taught for 8 years at a boys’ grammar school in East Ham, then for 31 years at Llanishen High School, Cardiff. He is now retired. He is an elder at Llanishen Evangelical Church, Cardiff, a small independent church with Brethren roots.

Secretary – Cath Christophides

Catherine is a primary school teacher in the Vale of Glamorgan. She is very involved in the children’s and youth work at her church in Cardiff.

Minutes Secretary – Marilyn John

Marilyn studied Biology at Aberystwyth in the 60’s and enjoyed a career in education in secondary schools in Leicestershire and then in Burry Port. She has been involved in EMW summer camps over the years.  In2007 she trained to teach Bible Explorer to Year 6 pupils and does that on a voluntary basis.  Marilyn lives in Porthcawl and worships at Bethel Baptist Church.

Dave Norbury

Dave Norbury was born in North Wales. He has worked in all four corners of Wales. His involvement in Education began as a Chemistry and Science Teacher, becoming a Senior teacher and Acting Deputy Headteacher in Rhosllanerchrugog, Wrexham.  He became a Science adviser to 400 schools in West Wales, then a senior adviser to Secondary schools and eventually became Assistant Director of Education and Head of School Improvement in Newport City Council for 10 years.  He was a Registered Inspector for Estyn for many years.  He is now General Secretary of the Evangelical Movement of Wales – an organisation working through English and Welsh languages across Wales.

Alan Charter

Alan is passionate about helping the next generation meet Jesus. He is partner in crime with Claire in parenting three endlessly energetic children, David, Amelia and Ben, which keeps his feet on the ground! The rest of the time Alan has one of those feet in Scripture Union as Associate Director and the other as director of Children Matter – a coalition of organisations seeking to help the UK church reach more children.

Vicki Brackpool

Vicki trained as  Primary School teacher in 2003 and joined Scripture Union as  Field Worker for Wales in Nov 2006.  She works mainly with churches to enable, train and support them in ministry with children, young people and families. She is based in Llantwit Fardre and moved to Wales in 2001 from Bristol.

Dawn Lonney

Dawn trained as a primary school teacher, then moved to Barry to take up a teaching post in a large Infants’ school, where she worked for ten years. Over the years she has been involved with many children and young people through camp work, Sunday school, midweek Bible clubs and Holiday Bible clubs. She is a member of Bethesda Chapel, Dinas Powys where her husband is one of the church leaders. She has two young children.

Huw Kinsey

June Miller

June has a Degree in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Philosophy and Ethics.  For much of her teaching career she has been Head of Departments (both RE and Sociology).  She has substantial experience in children’s and youth work in her church and has been involved in ACTW for many years, where she is currently the Secretary.
